366 musical birthdays, sheryl croe

Today is the birthday of
Cheryl Crow, American singer,
songwriter, and guitarist who, with her distinctive voice, plays an important
role in rock, pop, and country rock music. The edit above and the musical
reference work / birthday calendar
were made by me, Frieke.

Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri (USA). Crow grew up in a musical family: her mother played piano and her father played trumpet. She began playing piano at a young age and composed her first song when she was 13. She studied music at the University of Missouri and then worked as a music teacher before moving to Los Angeles in 1986 to pursue her musical career. In LA, she first worked as a backing vocalist for major artists such as Michael Jackson, Sting, Rod Stewart, and Don Henley. She then joined a collective of musicians and songwriters, the Tuesday Night Music Club.

Crow’s breakthrough came in 1993 with her debut album Tuesday Night Music Club (named after the collective of the same name). The single All I Wanna Do became a worldwide hit. The album went multi-platinum and earned her three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Best New Artist. Songs such as Strong Enough and Leaving Las Vegasalso contributed to the album’s success.

Her success continued with her second album Sheryl Crow (1996), featuring the hits If It Makes You Happy, Everyday Is a Winding Road  en A Change Would Do You Good. In 1998, The Globe Sessions followed, which included My Favorite Mistake, one of her best-known songs from that period. In the years that followed, she remained successful with songs such as Soak Up the Sun (2002), which became one of her most recognizable and accessible hits. She also reached a wide audience with The First Cut Is the Deepest, a successful cover that once again brought her high chart positions.

In addition to her artistic work, her life has also included significant challenges. In 2006, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After successful treatment, she resumed her career and became actively involved in breast cancer research and other social initiatives. She is the mother of two adopted sons, a role she considers essential to her personal balance.

Although she stated in 2019 that the album Threads might be her last studio album, she returned in 2024 with Evolution.

Today, Sheryl Crow is regarded as one of the most versatile and enduring artists of her generation. More than 50 million albums sold, nine Grammy Awards, and a career that cannot be confined to a single genre or era. She is a storyteller, a survivor, and someone who has always chosen her own path.
