Axelle Red, the stage name of Fabienne Demal, was born on February 15, 1968, in Hasselt. From an early age, she was fascinated by music. Under the name Fabby, she made her debut at the age of fifteen in June 1983 in the BRT Top 30 with her first single, Little Girls.

In 1993, she graduated in law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. That same year, she achieved her definitive breakthrough with her debut album Sans plus attendre. The album was a major success in Belgium, France, and other French-speaking regions. Her warm, soulful voice and sincere lyrics deeply resonated with audiences. Singles such as Sensualité and Je t'attendsbecame major hits.

Following her successful debut, Axelle Red continued to broaden her musical horizons. With albums such as À tâtons (1996) and Con solo pensarlo (1998), she consolidated her position as one of the most versatile singers of her generation. She blends influences from soul, pop, gospel, and rhythm and blues, strongly inspired by classic American soul of the 1960s and 1970s.

In 2002, she released the album Face A / Face B, followed by, among others, Sisters & Empathy, which she recorded at the legendary studios of Stax Records in Memphis. Later albums include Un cœur comme le mien, Rouge Ardent and Exil. With these works, she has remained both artistically and commercially relevant.

In addition to her musical career, Axelle Red is known for her strong social commitment. She serves as an ambassador for UNICEF and has long been dedicated to children’s rights. In that capacity, she has traveled to various countries to raise awareness about issues such as education, healthcare, and child labor. Her engagement forms an integral part of her public identity.

As for her work as an author: Axelle Red has not built an extensive career as a novelist or poet. She has published texts and opinion pieces and has been involved in social projects, but she is primarily known as a singer, songwriter, and composer.

Axelle Red remains an influential figure in the European music world. With her distinctive voice, timeless soul sound, and enduring social commitment, she has secured a lasting place in the cultural landscape. Her music continues to appeal to new generations, confirming her status as one of the most important Belgian artists of the past decades.
